In 1952, Willy Breitling developed a chronograph with a circular slide rule that pilots could use to make all the necessary flight calculations. Two years later, the American Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA), the largest pilots’ club in the world, appointed his design as its official timepiece. The association’s wing logo was emblazoned on the 12 o’clock position, and thus the “Navigation Timer” – or simply Navitimer – was born.
A flattened slide rule and domed glass create the impression of a more compact profile. Polished and brushed finishes give the metal elements a high-end, shiny yet understated look. Worn by astronauts in space and by the world’s biggest stars, this is Breitling’s most legendary timepiece and one of the most distinctive watches of all time.
