A caliber with a perpetual calendar is a mechanical movement that knows how many days each month has, even in leap years. The mechanical complexity behind the fact that February has 29 days in a leap year cannot be overstated. The B19 caliber with a perpetual calendar features additional components programmed to know exactly when this extra day occurs within the four-year cycle. To make matters even more complicated, the five calendar displays—day, date, month, moon phase, and leap year—all advance simultaneously from December 31 to January 1.

Breitling’s storied association with chronographs and aeronautics dates back to 1884, when Léon Breitling laid the foundation for a company that would remain in his family for nearly a century.
In 1923, a patented pocket watch with two chronograph pushers caused a sensation. The one pusher in the 2 o’clock position was used for starting and stopping, while the other, integrated into the crown, reset the chronograph mechanism. For the first time, it was possible for the stopwatch to measure multiple times in sequence.
Navigation and timer - or simply Navitimer
In 1952, Willy Breitling developed a chronograph with a circular slide rule that pilots could use to make all the necessary flight calculations. Two years later, the American Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA), the largest pilots' club in the world, appointed his design as its official timepiece.
