For divers, timing was everything, and Breitling set out to develop a diving watch that was as straightforward as possible, stripped of any function that was not geared to the life-saving requirements underwater. This watch, reduced to the essentials, was given the name Superocean Slow Motion. What remained were clear lines, massive luminous indices, angular hands and a high-contrast dial ring to guarantee maximum legibility. It was practical in any case. But what really excited people was its look. The Superocean Automatic 46 Super Diver revisits the celebrated design elements of the Slow Motion and complements them with modern features such as a scratch-resistant, matt ceramic inlay bezel and camouflage dials.

Breitling’s storied association with chronographs and aeronautics dates back to 1884, when Léon Breitling laid the foundation for a company that would remain in his family for nearly a century.

In 1923, a patented pocket watch with two chronograph pushers caused a sensation. The one pusher in the 2 o’clock position was used for starting and stopping, while the other, integrated into the crown, reset the chronograph mechanism. For the first time, it was possible for the stopwatch to measure multiple times in sequence.

Navigation and timer - or simply Navitimer

In 1952, Willy Breitling developed a chronograph with a circular slide rule that pilots could use to make all the necessary flight calculations. Two years later, the American Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA), the largest pilots' club in the world, appointed his design as its official timepiece.
