Canada Mark

Only diamonds from the far north of Canada bear the protected CanadaMark label. The certificate of origin, which accompanies every CanadaMark diamond together with the international GIA certificate, contains the registered number and the name of the mine from which the diamond originates.

You can trace the path of your diamond via a database. You will get to know your stone in its rough state, i.e. before it is cut. You will find out which mine it comes from and in which fascinating environment it has lain dormant in the earth for thousands of years: In the north-west of Canada, close to the Arctic Circle, in a natural environment barely touched by civilisation.

The region where your diamond comes from is only accessible by land for two months of the year. And even then, only the bravest of travellers take this route. This is because it involves travelling over ice, which is only stable enough in the Canadian winter. The discoverers of the precious gemstones in the ice attach great importance to preserving nature in its original state and strengthening the community of people who live and work there.

Mining in Canada is subject to stricter regulations than in other countries. Federal laws, territorial laws and aboriginal agreements are all designed to protect Canada's environment and the people of this country. All mines participating in the Canadamark programme must comply with Canada's strict environmental regulations, and many go above and beyond.
