While a large part of the watch industry had arrived at the space-saving quartz movements in the 1980s, Breitling deliberately opted for classic mechanics with the Chronomat. Based on the Frecce Tricolori watch released in 1983, Breitling wanted to use the Chronomat to mark a stylish anniversary of the Manufacture’s 100th birthday. It was clear that such a milestone in the company’s history could only be equipped with a high-quality mechanical chronometer movement.
Despite the opposing trend, this watch became a sporty style icon of the 80s, which subsequently inspired the entire watch industry. However, the original is and remains one of Breitling’s most remarkable models, which has become a faithful companion not only for pilots but also for many other adventurers and sportsmen. The integration of the tachymeter was an innovation that even found resonance in racing.
The Chronomat is available with black, blue, silver and copper dials and is coordinated with the characteristic Rouleaux bracelet.

Breitling’s storied association with chronographs and aeronautics dates back to 1884, when Léon Breitling laid the foundation for a company that would remain in his family for nearly a century.
In 1923, a patented pocket watch with two chronograph pushers caused a sensation. The one pusher in the 2 o’clock position was used for starting and stopping, while the other, integrated into the crown, reset the chronograph mechanism. For the first time, it was possible for the stopwatch to measure multiple times in sequence.
Navigation and timer - or simply Navitimer
In 1952, Willy Breitling developed a chronograph with a circular slide rule that pilots could use to make all the necessary flight calculations. Two years later, the American Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA), the largest pilots' club in the world, appointed his design as its official timepiece.
